Yves-Martin Proulx (1971-2001) Cursed month of October! I hate October. It's a cursed month. I hate October quite simply because one of my best friends passed away on this date. It's already been eight years. How the time passes... Yves-Martin Proulx, whom many of you knew in his role as a writer for Moto Journal, was passion incarnate. He loved motorcycling above all, but also the craft of journalism, which became his calling in 1999 and which he practised with great professionalism. And brimming enthusiasm. Yves-Martin died on the 12th of October, 2001 of leukemia. He was only 30 years old. More than a colleague, he was a dear friend who had an acute sense of loyalty and of sharing. Not to mention his professional skills. I miss Yves-Martin. His photo, hanging on the wall of my office, reminds me of better days. In fact, not a week passes without me thinking about him. With, each time. a deep feeling of injustice. He embodied the new wave of motorcycle journalists. He had youth, fire, passion and insouciance. But above all, talent and integrity. Life held out a promise of a brilliant future that was, unfortunately, never to be realized. I hate October. It's a month of sadness. Moreover, bad weather is around the corner. And the days get shorter. Didier Constant ______________________________ In memory of Yves-Martin Proulx, please contribute to our blood donor clinic taking place at the Montreal Motrocycle Show. |
